JULIA KEYTE
Durable Design: An Opportunity For Contemporary Studio Jewellery?
----------------------------------------------------

Julia Keyte is a maker, a designer and a lecturer.  Her position as a practitioner lies somewhere on the boundaries of jewellery design, applied art and product design.  She uses making as a tool for exploring and understanding existing objects, and for generating and realising ideas.  The resulting objects are often suitable for exhibition in galleries and exhibitions, and are sometimes mass-producible for a larger market.

Julia lectures full-time at Sheffield Hallam University predominantly in the Department of Metalwork and Jewellery, and occasionally in the Product Design Department.  She studied jewellery design at Edinburgh College of Art (graduating 1998) and product design at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam (graduating 2003).
